It has been reported that Selena Gomez, who played on the TV series “Only Murders in the Building“, will be starring in the next film from filmmaker Brady Corbet, following the Oscar-winning “The Brutalist” and acclaimed films such as “The Childhood of a Leader” and “Vox Lux“.

The InSneider reported that Corbet’s film was rumored to be called “The Origin of the World“, but no official announcement has been made on that.

The next movie by Corbett will be a horror-western project with a more casual style unlike his previous movies, as previously confirmed. The film will cover a period of over 150 years, from the late 19th century to1 the present day, but it will mainly concentrate on the 1970s.

He confirmed in an interview last November that the film might get an X rating, would probably run for as long as or possibly longer than “The Brutalist,” and would explore Northern California’s economy.

This week, Corbet talked about a little more detail about the project, telling Deadline:

“My new film is a film that is sort of about American mysticism and the history of the occult in America, and I’ve been reading tons and tons of material about the migration of the cultist belief systems and structures. I’ve started working with this fascinating guy called Mitch Horowitz, who is an occultist historian of America.”

Despite the film’s aim of being genre-defying, Corbett says it will be shot entirely on 70mm film.
