Prime Video’s new series The Power looks at what happens when women all over the world gain unexplained abilities that help them take back a bit of what others have traditionally held from them. It’s a globe-spanning, insightful look at what it truly means to have power, and it’s very relevant to what’s going on in the world today despite its science fiction enhancements.
I had the chance to speak with writer and executive producer Naomi de Pear about her involvement with The Power and how it’s been received by audiences, as well as her past projects, including Humans, The Bisexual, and This Is Going to Hurt.

Series summary:
The Power is an emotionally-driven global thriller, based on Naomi Alderman’s international award-winning novel. The Power is our world, but for one twist of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people at will.
The series features a cast of remarkable characters from London to Seattle, Nigeria to Eastern Europe, as the Power evolves from a tingle in teenagers’ collarbones to a complete reversal of the power balance of the world.
