Netflix Hints of ‘Alice In Borderland’ Season 4 Greenlight

Alice in Borderland may extend its time on the air after its recent dramatic Season 3 finale. Netflix, the streamer behind the acclaimed Japanese sci-fi show, is hinting the project may continue in some form after all. There’s a potential for a fourth season of the drama. That possibility comes after the platform previously stated its intention to only air three seasons.

Netflix’s original plan was to run the live-action show for the duration of the manga of the same name that it’s based on by Haro Aso. There is a conclusive ending to the screen adaptation, but there are still other storylines that can be explore on a television series.

The show’s executives have discussed the possibility of continuing Alice in Borderland. Director Shinsuke Sato told RadioTimes: “If you’re asking me whether I’d be interested or not, I would certainly say yes.” He also hopes to make a television series about the spin-off manga, Alice on Border Road.

Actor Tao Tsuchiya proposed the idea of more story involving Arisu and Usagi’s child in the Borderland. “[Usagi] would love to see that child return [to the normal world], not just the two lead characters. The story is set to be familial. I think that could be really interesting.”

The end of Alice in Borderland‘s third season shows all the cities that the earthquake hit. That indicates that there could be global spin-offs that follow other characters in the Borderland.

The season 3 finale offers a firm conclusion to the Japanese show’s overall arc. Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and a pregnant Usagi (Tsuchiya) escape Borderland for the second time. They then return to work and life, and discuss baby names in the real world. Their surviving season 3 teammates, as well as fan-favorite characters from seasons 1 and 2, also make appearances. Their guest spots imply the series has wrapped up.

The streamer’s consideration of expanding the franchise seems to have angered fans of the Japanese series who have since voiced concerns about the show possibly receiving an American adaptation on social media. One X user wrote, “I hate netflix so much with their weird obsession with turning foreign TV series into USA versions. WE DON’T NEED ALICE IN BORDERLAND: USA VERSION. the story was already nice and ended perfectly.”

Another fan shared a similar sentiment on X by stating, “finished alice in borderland s3 and ofc it’s as good as the previous seasons! the only thing I dislike is that unnecessary AMERICAN scene at the end lol main character syndrome country if they ever made a US version i will NOT be tuning in yikes.”
