Following its Venice Film Festival announcement as the opening feature, Netflix scooped up U.S. and Latin American rights to filmmaker Danny Boyle‘s “Ink“.
Studiocanal took charge of global sales and plans theatrical releases in their territories, which include the UK, much of Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
Jack O’Connell, Guy Pearce, and Claire Foy lead the actors in the film adaptation of the Tony-nominated stage play by James Graham (“Dear England“), with the same author penning the screenplay.
Made in 1969, the movie follows how future Australian media tycoon Rupert Murdoch (Pearce) and tabloid editor Larry Lamb (O’Connell) created The Sun newspaper.
Murdoch plans for the publication to become a must-read and has hired Lamb to manage it. This merger would spark a longstanding feud between The Sun and The Mirror, paving the way for the emergence of contemporary British tabloids, including outlets like Murdoch’s Fox News, as well as the proliferation of sensationalist news and social media platforms.
Boyle directs and produces with Tracey Seaward, Michael Ellenberg, and Tessa Ross.
