Amazon and MGM Studios have unveiled the trailer for “Madden,” the anticipated biographical film where Nicolas Cage portrays the legendary NFL coach and commentator John Madden, and Christian Bale takes on the role of NFL owner Al Davis.

The project is directed, produced by David O. Russell and co-produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Jonathan Shukat and Matthew Budman from “American Hustle” and “Silver Linings Playbook.”

Madden, who was deceased in 2021, was the charismatic head coach of the Oakland Raiders in the 1970s. He held a prominent position in television football coverage for over three decades. He also endorsed the widely popular video game series.

The movie is placed in the 1970s, during Madden’s tenure as coach and when Davis was the owner of the Oakland Raiders. It will illustrate that due to health issues, Madden had to relinquish years of coaching to focus on, significantly contributed to developing the Madden NFL video game series, and later found success in broadcasting and advertising.

Kathryn Hahn, Sienna Miller, and John Mulaney, who portray Trip Hawkins, Virginia Madden, and Carol Dav, are among the co-stars.

Russell is directing the film from a script he co-wrote, which Cambron Cla had earlier drafted. “Madden” is set for release on November 18th 2026.
