“It” franchise actor Bill Skarsgaard and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter FKA twigs teamed up to star in a “modern reimagining” of the long-waited supernatural thriller, EW has confirmed, with “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders attached to direct. “King Richard” writer Zach Baylin is penning the new script, is based on the original graphic novel of the beloved character that was created, written and illustrated by James O’Barr.
“The Crow is beautiful, dark, poetic, and sometimes disturbing,” Sanders said in a statement. “It is a story of love, loss, grief, and revenge. It is a great honor to revisit James O’Barr’s iconic comic and reimagine “The Crow” as a foreboding voice of today.”
The Crow starts with the night before his wedding, musician Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) and his fiancée are brutally murdered by members of a violent inner-city gang. On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and assumes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger.
Tracking down the thugs responsible for the crimes and mercilessly murdering them, Eric eventually confronts head gangster Top Dollar (Michael Wincott) to complete his macabre mission.
The actual reboot project started from Relativity Media a decade ago, in 2011, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was initially attached to direct, Bradley Cooper was supposed to star, but Cooper dropped out the project with Juan, then the Weinstein company fought over the distribution rights and settled.
The project moved again when Jason Momoa was taking over in the starring role after Luke Evans and Jack Huston both dropped out the project in 2014, and director Corin Hardy was attached to direct the film. But the Relativity filed for bankruptcy again in 2018, the film remained in limbo, and both Hardy and Momoa eventually left the project.
