Robert Pattinson Returning for ‘The Batman 2’

The latest news out of CinemaCon is sure to be welcome by fans of Robert Pattinson and The Batman: both are returning for a second round. According to Variety, Reeves announced last night that he will be back to write and direct the sequel, but provided no other details about the film.

This news comes just over a week about The Batman made its streaming debut on HBO Max. The three-hour film holds the title of highest-grossing film of 2022, netting 9 million at the worldwide box office.

Its March opening weekend scored $134 million domestically, making it only the second movie during the pandemic to beat $100 million in one weekend, along with Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While a sequel was likely given the enduring popularity of the Bruce Wayne character and multiple successful film franchises in the past, this is also an important win for Warner Bros.

The studio’s decision to release its 2021 slate in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time was met with a great deal of controversy, and The Batman ushers in a new year and a new model, which returns to a 45-day exclusive theatrical run prior to films debuting on HBO Max.

Within the same universe and spun off from The Batman, The Penguin has a straight-to-series order at HBO Max, and Peacemaker, the spinoff of The Suicide Squad, has been renewed for a second season. Additional DC projects on the way at Warner Bros.

are DC League of Super-Pets, opening July 29th, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, opening December 22nd. On tap for March and June 2023, respectively, are Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash.

The Batman, which stars Pattinson, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, Zoë Kravitz, Colin Farrell, and Jeffrey Wright, is now available to stream on HBO Max. If you haven’t already, check out our interview with stunt coordinator Robert Alonzo!
