Sex and the City star Chris Noth has been dropped by his talent agency, A3 Artists Agency, as he has recently been accused of sexual assault by two women. A representative for the company confirmed the news yesterday, after The Hollywood Reporter broke the story on Thursday. The alleged incidents of misconduct occurred in Los Angeles in 2004 and New York in 2015.
The women, who didn’t know each other before reporting the crimes, are both using pseudonyms to keep their true identities anonymous. They were both motivated to report the incidents after they were emotionally triggered while watching Noth reprise his role as Mr. Big on HBO Max’s new Sex and the City sequel series, And Just Like That.
“Seeing that he was reprising his role in Sex and the City set off something in me,” said one of the victims, who’s using the alias Zoe. She met the actor while she working at a high-profile firm where many celebrities did business. She was 22 when the assault took place in a West Hollywood apartment. Zoe, who had stitches at Cedars-Sinai after the assault, felt it was time, now, “to try to go public with who he is.”
The other victim, who’s using the pseudonym Lily, was a server in the VIP department of a New York nightclub when she met Noth, who’s currently a series regular on the CBS crime drama series, The Equalizer. She was 25 at the time the misconduct occurred at the performer’s Greenwich Village apartment, and revealed that it made her feel “totally violated.”
Noth has denied the women’s claims, and has called them “categorically false.” In response to their accusations, he released a statement, which states: “These stories could’ve been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago — no always means no — that is a line I did not cross. The encounters were consensual.”
The actor also questioned why the two women decided to publicly come forward with their claims now, years after the alleged crimes occurred. “It’s difficult not to question the timing of these stories coming out. I don’t know for certain why they are surfacing now, but I do know this: I did not assault these women,” he said.
The Los Angeles police department has said it’s not actively looking into Zoe’s allegations against Noth. “There is no investigation at this point,” Officer Drake Madison told Deadline on Thursday night.
The office’s response came after Zoe filed an informal report with the LAPD in the past few weeks about the alleged assault. Law enforcement said they began an initial probe into the actor’s actions after the report was filed, but decided not to continue the investigation.
Sex crimes like those Noth is accused of committing have a 10-year statute of limitations in California. New York has similar laws.
In response to the allegations and being dropped by A3 Artists Agency, Noth recently hired Lavely & Singer lawyers for his defense. His legal team, which led by Andrew Brettler, has said: “No one from any law enforcement agency has contacted Chris or any of his representatives. Obviously if anyone does reach out, we will cooperate fully” with any police probe if and when one occurs.
