A big hit at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Megan Park’s My Old Ass, her follow-up to the HBO/MAX movie, The Fallout, takes an introspective look at something many people have wondered about: if you have a chance to speak with your younger self, what would you tell them about the direction of their life?
That’s the question when Maisy Stella’s 18-year-old Elliot takes hallucinogenics while celebrating her summer break with friends, and she ends up encountering her 39-year-old self, played by Aubrey Plaza. Older Elliot warns her younger self to stay away from “Chad,” which is fine until Elliot actually meets a guy named Chad (played by Percy Hynes White from Wednesday), and they hit it off.
Cinema Daily US spoke with Mses. Park and Stella about the dramedy, how they developed the character of Elliot both together and with Plaza, and how the idea of setting the movie on a cranberry farm actually pays off.
