It’s been almost four years since one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein, began to see his fortune turn around after numerous accusations of abuse and sexual assault were leveled against him.

A film about the journalists who broke the story, Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor, is in pre-production at Universal Pictures, adapting the New York Times bestseller She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement. Deadline reports that the starring roles are set to go to actresses Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan.

The film has been described as similar to Spotlight or All the President’s Men, focused on the reporters rather than on the subject of the investigation. This production will be overwhelmingly led by women, with Maria Schrader, an Emmy winner for Netflix’s Unorthodox, directing, and Rebecca Lenkiewicz, who wrote the script for the Oscar-winning Polish film Ida, penning the script. Megan Ellison and Sue Neagle are attached as executive producers for Annapurna Pictures, while Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner are on board to produce for Plan B Entertainment.

Universal Vice President of Production Lexi Barta is overseeing for the studio.

Mulligan and Kazan previously worked together not onscreen but on stage in a 2008 Broadway production of The Seagull. Mulligan also starred in Wildlife, which was co-written and produced by Kazan, in 2018. Mulligan was nominated for an Oscar last year for her role in Promising Young Woman, and also appeared in the film The Dig. Kazan was last seen on television in HBO’s limited series The Plot Against America, and is best known for The Big Sick, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, and Ruby Sparks.
