This past Friday, as his new movie The Suicide Squad opened in theaters and on HBO Max, star Joel Kinnaman revealed on Instagram that he has filed for a restraining order against Swedish model Gabriella Magnusson, who goes by Bella Davis, to counter what he alleged was false information that she was attempting to spread about him, as reported by Deadline.
In his Instagram post, Kinnaman wrote “Earlier this morning, I filed for a restraining order against a woman who has been threatening to physically harm me and my family and loved ones, and attempting to extort money and other things of value from me. While it is mortifying and scary to come forward about all of this, what feels worse is enduring the escalating daily threats of physical harm to me and my loved ones and threats to go to the press with fabricated, vile rumors unless I agree to a list of demands that includes money, Hollywood connections, helping to secure a work visa, a verified Instagram page, a Wikipedia page, a photoshoot with Sports Illustrated, an additional $400,000 USD for an apartment and more.”
He then goes on to detail what he describes as a consensual “brief romantic relationship” in late 2018 that turned sour when he was in a new relationship in 2019 and 2020 and Davis started sending him explicit messages, which he ignored. He stated that she was going to go public with claims that he had sexually assaulted her and that she bragged about how much money and fame she could attain from going to the press. He affirmed a message of solidarity in his closing: “I want to be VERY clear so there is no misunderstanding: I stand by all victims of sexual assault.
That is not what occurred here.
This was consensual sex. And now it is an attempt to extort. More importantly – this is a threat to the safety of my family and loved ones, which will always be my top priority.”
Davis responded on Instagram with multiple screenshots of text message exchanges with a “Joel Agent,” who she says is Kinnaman’s manager Orlando John, as well as messages and recorded audio in Swedish of her speaking with Kinnaman in which she says he begged for forgiveness. Davis says that John paid for her lawyer and that they wanted her to be silent. She emphasizes repeatedly that Kinnaman has no evidence for his claims and that “God knows the truth.
