Marvel Chief Kevin Feige Gives Updates on the Next Avengers Movie, Loki Season 2, and Deadpool 3

It’s hard to turn around these days without hitting an actor who has starred in a Marvel Cinematic Universe project. Marvel Studios released an epic trailer for its Phase Four slate back in May, and though there was plenty to anticipate in that exciting preview, there are additional projects in development that have left fans with burning questions. In an interview with Collider, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige discussed the potential timetable for a fifth Avengers movie.

“I think we want there to be a reasonable amount of time from the Endgame to start a new saga, which is already underway and already started. And then you need time, as you did in Phase 1, to build that saga before you start bringing everyone together.” The Avengers served as the conclusion to Phase 1 when it was released in 2012. Avengers: Age of Ultron was part of Phase 2 in 2015, while Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were crucial to Phase 3, in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

Fans can expect to see some sort of cinematic crossover since two Disney+ series WandaVision and Loki (here’s our review) will converge in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, currently set for a March 25th, 2022 release. But what Feige also revealed is that, despite Loki having been renewed for a second season, it is likely very far off. All efforts will be made to keep the same team in place, aside from director Kate Herron, who will not be returning. About season two, Feige shared: “It is underway. We’re developing it as we speak. The hope is that much of the same team will return. Kate is going on to bigger and better things, so the director search will begin shortly.”

Speaking with Comic Book, Feige also confirmed that another anticipated sequel, Deadpool 3, is very much in the works. When asked if he had a window tentatively scheduled for the film’s release, Feige replied “We do. And the script is in the works and Ryan is working very hard on it with our writers as we speak.” No director is attached to the project just yet, but writers Wendy Molyneaux and Lizzie Molyneaux-Loeglin are on board, as is star Ryan Reynolds. At this point, Deadpool is the only former 20th Century Fox Marvel property that is being continued under the Marvel Studios banner, though there are many theories circulating about how the X-Men will eventually be incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
