Is David Gordon Green being spooked by the scriptwriting goblins as he contemplates an ending to Halloween Ends? Though the witching hour fast approaches, he’s still reportedly tinkering with the ending to the trilogy just weeks before its projected release.

Green was quoted in Empire this week as saying, “It [the ending] changes every day. In theory, the picture is locked, but this morning I called the editor and said, ‘What if we do this one thing…?’ I speak with John [Carpenter] and Jamie Lee Curtis regularly about it. It’s exciting, uncertain, satisfying and sad. I’ve enjoyed the ride but it’s probably time to get off.

I think we’re gonna go out with a bang.”

Hallowee Ends is the last of a highly lucrative threequel whose earlier installments included Halloween and Halloween Kills, harking back to John Carpenter’s 1978 original. Kills was released in the U.S. on October 15, 2021, just a year earlier. It grossed more than 1 million worldwide.

Halloween Ends will again feature Jamie Lee Curtis in the role of Laurie Strode and James Jude Courtney as serial killer Michael Myers. Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, and Will Patton will also be reprising their earlier roles, joined by Anthony Michael Hall and Thomas Mann. Picking up where Kills left off, Ends will again focus on the struggle by Strode and her family to ward off the macabre mayhem instigated by Myers.

The script-in-progress for the new film was written by Green in collaboration with Danny McBride and Scott Teems. Green, however, is hinting that Halloween Ends will be a little more subdued than the slashfest that was Halloween Kills. He was quoted in the Empire article as saying: “If our second film was free-for-all, violent chaos, this is a more intimate, atmospheric conclusion.”

This time, the chaos seems to be in the run-up to completing the film, which is scheduled to be released in the UK on October 14, slightly more than two weeks before the Halloween holiday.
