Netflix has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes featurette showing off Some of the incredible craftsmanship and hours of meticulous work on making of the stop-motion animated “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” which streamer will release in December. Del Toro co-wrote the script with Patrick McHale.
Del Toro says: “To me, there’s a valuable difference between stop-motion as an art form and digital. Stop-motion in the early days where you had the flicker of fur and fabric, even the atmospheric dust on the sets.
And the imperfection was, sort of gorgeous to look at because it told you how the thing was done.
”
In the footage, one of the production’s puppeteers is seen moving a character inch by inch to maneuver from one side of a landscape to another, and Del Toro also shows viewers the different sizes of puppets, when Pinocchio (Gregory Mann) interacts with Sebastian J. Cricket (Ewan McGregor) in the film, a larger version of Pinocchio head is used, which is about as huge as an oversized Budda in temple.
This version of the story is set in fascist Italy pre-World War II and features the voices of Ewan McGregor, Christoph Waltz, Gregory Mann, David Bradley, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, Finn Wolfhard, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson and Burn Gorman.
“Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” is scheduled to be released at select theaters on November 25, 2022, before it begins to stream on Netflix on December 9, 2022.
