Johan Renck, a Swedish filmmaker who received an Emmy for directing HBO’s acclaimed mini-series “Chernobyl,” will be in charge of directing the latest live-action “Assassin’s Creed” TV series.
He is collaborating with Netflix for the third time, having previously directed the first two episodes of “Bloodline” and the Adam Sandler-led feature “Spaceman“.
Renck was previously the director of “The Last Panthers” and directed prominent episodes of “Breaking Bad,” “The Walking Dead,” and “Vikings“, among others.
He was initially to direct he premieres of HBO’s “The Last of Us” and “Dune: Prophecy“, but opted out because of scheduling issues and creative differences.
And here’s the synopsis says about the “Assassin’s Creed” show will center “on the secret war between two shadowy factions – one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”
The game series, which has been sold over 230 million copies worldwide since 2007, is about the war between the rival secret orders of the Assassins and the Templars. Each entry is based on a different time period, and can be accessed from today via a machine called the Animus.
Toby Wallace (“Euphoria”), Lola Petticrew (“Say Nothing”), Zachary Hart (“Slow Horses”) and Laura Marcus (“Death by Lightning”) star as regulars. Roberto Patino (“Westworld“) and David Wiener (“Halo“)are serving as creators, showrunners and executive producers. Gerard Guillemot, Matt O’Toole, Genevieve Jones, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill will also executive produce.
The property was previously developed as a Justin Kurzel-directed 2016 film starring Michael Fassbender, which had a box office flopped.
