Magic Mike is Coming to TV as a Reality Competition Show!

The popular movie Magic Mike is being made into a reality competition show for HBO Max. The series, which has a working title of The Real Magic Mike, comes from Eureka Productions and Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon. Described as an “exhilarating and sexy” series, the show invites ten men who are billed as having “lost their magic” to compete. HBO Max’s press release teases that “as they strip off their clothes, they will rid themselves of emotional baggage and regain their mojo but only one will be the Real Magic Mike.” The winner will get a cash prize and the chance to perform on the Magic Mike Live stage in Las Vegas. Casting is currently happening and the show is expected to premiere sometime in 2021.

The first Magic Mike film, released in 2012, was directed by Steven Soderbergh and offered an enthralling look at the lives of male strippers. Channing Tatum led a cast that included Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello, and Matthew McConaughey. A second film, Magic Mike XXL, came out in 2015, reuniting Tatum, Bomer, and Manganiello, with Gregory Jacobs taking over directing duties. Both films were financial successes, taking in $167 million and $118 million, respectively. Tatum and Soderbergh have boarded this reality show as executive producers, along with Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, Gregory Jacobs, Nick Wechsler, Vincent Marini, Alycia Rossiter, Cassie Lambert Scalettar, Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Wes Dening, David Tibballs and co-executive producer Kevin Boyer.

Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content for HBO Max, said: “From box office hits to sold-out live shows, Magic Mike has proven to be a pop culture juggernaut that continues to delight people across the globe. We’re excited to work with Channing, Steven and the team behind Magic Mike Live to continue this successful franchise that celebrates self-confidence and sexiness both inside and out.” Mike Darnell, President, Warner Bros. Unscripted Television added that “Magic Mike is one of Warner Bros.’ most iconic franchises. We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Channing, Steven and HBO Max on an all-new vision of this amazing and legendary brand. We’re looking forward to giving fans a front row seat as we search the country for undiscovered talent.”
