Godzilla is prepared to confront the Big Apple in the first teaser of “Godzilla Minus Zero“.

Takashi Yamazaki drew attention to his progress on the sequel to his Oscar-winning 2023 feature “Godzilla Minus One” by presenting on the Cinema Con stage in Las Vegas on Tuesday. The sequel is scheduled to be released theatrically by GKIDS on Nov. 6.

“This film will be a direct sequel to Godzilla Minus One,” Yamazaki told the crowd through a translator. “It will continue to follow the story of the Shikishima family.”

Yamazaki also added, “In this new film, an even deeper despair will descend upon Japan and the Shikishima family. When faced when overwhelming and inescapable force, how do people fight back?” He noted, “The journey from Minus to Zero will not be an easy one.”

Yamazaki’s team at work was captured in behind-the-scenes footage during the presentation, which was a teaser for “Godzilla Minus Zero“. He also revealed the first teaser trailer for the new project. “If their operation fails, maybe we will finally be able to use it,” a voice says in the footage about an impending threat. The trailer’s final moment, where Godzilla approached The Statue of Liberty and the cage made its way through New York City, received a significant amount of cheers.

Godzilla Minus One” revolved around Ryunosuke Kamiki as Kichi Shikishima, a former kamikaze pilot who experienced PTSD and survivor’s guilt after encountering Godzilla in Japan after World War II.

The film topped $110 million in the global box office and became the first Japanese production to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
