Marvel’s mastermind filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo are back on Netflix with the sci-fi comedy, The Electric State, starring Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things and Chris Pratt from the Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy. The Electric State was adapted from Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel of the same name by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, best known for writing all four of the Russos’ Marvel movies, including the blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, which still holds the record for biggest box office opening ever.
The Electric State takes place in an alternate world in which humans and robots went to war during the early ‘90s. That war is ended by a use of neural transmitters that allow humans to inhabit robot bodies. Brown’s Michelle lost her family and younger brother Christopher in a car accident, but when she encounters a robot (voiced by Alan Tudyk) claiming to be her brother, she goes on a journey to find out if he’s still alive. Along the way, she meets Pratt’s Keats, a smart-mouthed smuggler who has his own robot companion, Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie), and the four of them head into the forbidden zone where robots have been imprisoned once the war ended.
Cinema Daily US critic Edward Douglas has seen The Electric State, which will hit select theaters on Friday, March 7, and then streams on Netflix starting March 14. You can find out what he thought by watching the video above.
